All human beings encounter pain and suffering in life

All human beings encounter pain and suffering in life. This can present some difficult questions to organized religions.

On some level, all religions answer fundamental questions of human existence, including, “why are we here?” Pain and suffering complicate these basic questions of human existence, whether the religion is monotheistic, polytheistic, or atheistic.

Some people endure much more pain and suffering than others. Why is this so? What is the origin of suffering? Is evil external or internal? Does it have any meaning? How should we respond to it?

Even more difficult is the problem of moral evil: some people deliberately cause other people to suffer. Why? If there is meaning in the universe, and especially if the universe is ruled by a beneficent deity, how can this be?

Write an essay of 1,000 words that examines the basic positions of each of the five religious traditions considering these human questions

In your essay, address the following questions:

  • How does each religion respond to the problems of evil and suffering?
  • How are those responses similar?
  • In what ways do the responses differ?
  • What factors account for these differences?
  • Which way of addressing evil is the most similar to your own? What role does reason play in your personal understanding of evil? How does that overlap or contradict with the major religions’ uses of reason in explaining evil?

The informational approach in measuring organizational effectiveness

The informational approach in measuring organizational effectiveness

Select a data collection questionnaire or tool that has been designed by a healthcare organization to obtain feedback on their overall effectiveness or the effectiveness of a particular information system within the organization. These may be questionnaires that are administered online or in paper form.

There are several ways to find such questionnaires. For example, they may appear in a journal article reporting on their use. To locate such instruments, search the Library business database on business evaluation topics that may be of interest to you or on the names of particular organizations that might be of interest to you. Some other possible sources of instruments or information about instruments include:

Spend some time reviewing the mission and goals of the organization you select so that you understand what they are trying to accomplish and why the questionnaire was used for evaluation. The names (and sources) of the instrument and the company in which it has been used should be included in your work.

Analyze the instruments to determine the following:

  • Who is likely to receive and complete the questionnaire, and who is not? (Be sure to identify and briefly describe the organization in which the instrument has been used.)
  • Why has the organization created the questionnaire or survey? Is it valid for this purpose?
  • How difficult will it be for someone to analyze the answers?
  • What is likely to be learned from answers submitted?
  • What effect are the answers likely to have on the organization? What role would this information play in improving the organization’s effectiveness?
  • Finally, describe how you would redesign the survey and explain how your revisions would improve it.

Drawing upon your research, respond to the above questions in a 4-6 page paper. Your completed exercise should follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.). Your writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful. Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics.

NOTE: Be sure to cite sources in APA format throughout your paper, especially when drawing conclusions and making recommendations, to support your ideas.

Per the Course Project Overview outlined in Module 1, you have selected a mental disorder to be the focus of your efforts.  As part of your course project

Per the Course Project Overview outlined in Module 1, you have selected a mental disorder to be the focus of your efforts.  As part of your course project, you will conduct field research on the practice related to your selected disorder. In your field research, you will interview a mental health professional to learn about the practice related to diagnosing and treating the disorder. In this assignment, you will prepare for the interview.

  • Provide a brief introductory paragraph identifying and discussing the DSM disorder you have selected (furnish appropriate APA citations and References).
  • Write ten interview questions that will bring out the information you need.
  • Formulate questions that ensure an appropriate understanding of the disorder. These questions should assist in differentiating the chosen disorder from those found within and outside its parent category.

Tips for approaching your future Interview with a Mental Health Professional
Ideally, you will select a mental health professional in your local area whom you can interview in person. However, if this is not possible, you may choose to select a mental health professional who is located in another city or state. Some students who live in remote areas may choose to contact state or national mental health-related organizations to find potential interviewees. Such organizations include:

In that case, you would conduct a phone interview.
Ensure that the person you interview has a background in the disorder you are studying.

Assignment 2: Discussion—Brain Scans and Application of Research to Brain Injury

Assignment 2: Discussion—Brain Scans and Application of Research to Brain Injury

The past twenty years have seen advancements in technology that were critical to further understanding concepts in cognitive psychology. Two such developments are positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. These scans allow researchers to “see” the brain in action.

Research how brain scans can diagnose injury and disease using the Internet and the Argosy University online library resources. Based on your research, answer the following questions:

  • How do PET and MRI work?
  • If you were showing a person words while having an MRI, what brain areas would probably be active?
  • If a brain injury victim is unable to move the right arm, in which area of the brain would an MRI scan most likely reveal damage?
  • What kind of scan do you think would be best in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease?
  • How do the research tools (equipment and methodology) available today contribute to a greater understanding of “conscious processes and immediate experience” than was possible using trained introspection and structuralism?

PETs and MRIs also can diagnose head injuries. Consider the following scenario:

You are working at a Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital and meet with Allison. Allison is in the US Army and has just returned home from a deployment. During her deployment, a bomb was thrown into a vehicle in which she was riding. She was not severely injured but was told that she sustained a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Respond to the following:

  • Define TBI for Allison.
  • Describe any symptoms that Allison might experience.
  • How do you think the army should deal with these injuries? For example, if Allison is not obviously physically impaired, should she be discharged and receive disability pay? Should she be redeployed? If Allison stays in the army, what kinds of jobs do you think she should not perform?

Write your initial response in 4–5 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

By the due date assigned, post your response to the appropriate Discussion AreaThrough the end of the module, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses.

Instructions:

To understand the validity of an instrument we must critically assess the core concepts that supposedly are being defined, measured and applied in a psychometric test. Having that in mind we have, during the second unit, critically revised the concept of “Intelligence” since the beginnings of “mental tests”, in the late XIX century, until the more recent theories of Intelligence developed in late XX century (specially during the 1980s and 1990s). For that reason the purpose of the this test is to elaborate a single essay that discusses the following:

1. How certain interpretations of the concept of evolution influenced the instrumentation and measurement of “Intelligence” in the “Nature vs. Nurture” debate at the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century.

2. The problems and limitations regarding how “Intelligence” has been measured, defined and applied. 3. How recent theories, specially Robert Sternberg’s and Howard Gardner’s theories, have tried to solve some of these problems and limitations. It is advisable that you take into account the following “guidelines” when elaborating your discussion:

1. Take into consideration the historical overview regarding the theory of evolution and individual differences as discussed in class and on Hergenhahn and Hanley’s (2014) text. It also advisable to look at Sternberg’s (2003) historical revision of some of the theories of Intelligence.

2. Focus on one of the recent theories, either Sternberg’s or Gardner’s, giving examples on how they prove that “Intelligence” cannot be reduced to what usual and traditional psychometric tests measure.

3. Use at least two (2) of the assigned texts. Limit yourself to said texts and the discussion in class. Assigned texts (in the order they were assigned). Hergenhahn, B.R. & Henley, T.B. (2014). For this assignment, you will write a case study analysis that focuses on the communication strategy of an organization of your choice

For this assignment, you will write a case study analysis that focuses on the communication strategy of an organization of your choice.

In this assignment, you will need to a) summarize the communication strategy of your chosen organization, b) analyze the communication strategy of your chosen organization, and c) explain how you would integrate the communication strategy into the current organization where you work or into a former organization where you have worked.

A. Summarize the Communication Strategy

Locate an article that discusses the communication strategies used by your chosen organization. After reading your chosen article, you may find the exercise below to be helpful in developing a summary paragraph. Identify the author(s) of your chosen article, and complete the following exercise:

[Insert author’s name here] discusses how innovative communication processes have helped [insert name of the organization here] resolve [insert issue here].

The top reason [insert author’s name here] holds that position is __________.

A second reason [insert author’s name here] holds that position is __________.

A third reason [insert author’s name here] holds that position is __________.

After filling in the blanks, you should have a list of the positions and claims made by the authors about your chosen organization. Shape your notes into a summary paragraph. (Do not simply include the list that you completed in the exercise above.)

Remember that the summary paragraph is where you will present information from the source. You will provide your analysis and interpretation in the following section of the paper.

B. Analyze the Communication Strategy

Be sure to include how the communication strategy impacts the organization on multiple levels. Feel free to use the four levels of sales, services, value chain, and continuous improvement as a model, which was discussed in the case study on the Dell Computer Corporation in the Unit VI Lesson. (Note: Your categories may be different.)

In the analysis portion of the assignment, discuss any problems (or potential problems) with the communications in your chosen organization, and provide potential solutions based on your research. Include ways that effective management could help to provide a solution.

C. Explain Integration Techniques

Finally, explain how this communication strategy could be integrated into your current or former workplace.

You will need to reference at least two academic sources.

Use the standard five-paragraph format (introduction/body/conclusion). APA format should be used. The assignment should be a minimum of three pages in length. Content, organization, and grammar/mechanics will be evaluated.
